Corgi Aviation Archive Collector Series AA36508 RCAF Hawker Typhoon Mk I No.439 Sqn, R. A. Johns, Normandy, France, July 1944 1/72 Scale
Below is a picture of the actual aircraft JR500 (the unusual spinner marking can just be discerned).
There is an excellent book out on the subject of RCAF Typhoon operations during the War called "TYPHOON AND TEMPEST - THE CANADIAN STORY" by Hugh A. Halliday published by CANAV books.
This deals mainly with operations of No.143(RCAF) Wing (Nos, 438(RCAF), 439(RCAF) and 440(RCAF) Squadrons) which worked within No. 83 Group, 2nd Tactical Air Force from January 1944 to VE-Day, 1945.
The model portrayed by Corgi is as flown by Flying Officer R.A. Johns just after D-Day from Normandy in 1944. F/O R.A. Johns was killed flying MN765 (Not the model released by Corgi) when he was shot down by flak over Speelberg, Oct 5, 1944.
