I have very mixed feeling about this, I would have loved this plane to be moved but left unrestored, if possible. When they restored it they messed up on the paint job and then displayed it with no mention of the pilot which was the main point of the story. Now very few people are going to see the plane and most of those who do won't know why it is so special.
Well at least the aircraft has been saved from it's inevitable destruction in the desert at the hands of uncaring visitors. I agree that being preserved 'as is' in an appropriate diorama would have been a much better choice. What a moving exhibit that would have been and what better way to tell a tale of tragedy such as war is. People would have stopped and stared silently for several emotional minutes but now they just pause and without any deep thought move on.
It's not worth doing something unless someone, somewhere would much rather you weren't doing it ~ Terry Pratchett
