It's time for another Oxford landing gear modification thread! This time it's actually an Atlas Editions issue, named "German Surrender 1945" - A double release with both the Spitfire IXe (Clipped wings) and the Do-335. The latter being my prime target for another gear mod. More on that at another time.
I paid roughly 29 USD for both the Spit and the Do-335, delivered. The pair being semi-rare in this Atlas Editions release.
The Spit surprised me a bit, I saw it as a bonus which I could have have given away or sold off. But it's actually a great model. With some additions it's quite attractive:
* Painted the spinner disc near the engine same egg-white as the spinner (was black, due to being cast as one piece with the prop blades) * Cut a weird section off both cannon barrels and glued them back on and re-painted. * Removed very strange additional red taped guns on the inner wing - 2 on both sides. Used nailpolish remover. * Painted in all small panel lines which the pad-prints couldn't reach. * Added landinggears from an Amercom Spitfire (well-meaning gift from a family member ) I had laying around. Painted in the wheel-wells.
With this, I a have a very nice stand-in until a cheap Gemini Aces Hornet Squadron [email protected] (GJ-GARAF1008) falls into my lab
