1/72 Dragon Warbirds 50056 McDonnell Douglas F/A-18C Hornet, VFA-195 Dambusters, "Chippy Ho" USS Kitty Hawk
A blast from the past. Before HM's superb legacy Hornet the best one was Dragon. They made a great model and certainly a lot better than the Witty version. This is Dragon's weathered version and while not perfect doesn't look too bad. The tampo isn't as sharp as today's standard but good enough at the time. Landing gear and other separate parts unfortunately are typical Dragon poor fit in need of white glue to stay on. Sidewinders are even worse as you can see - the missiles are slightly bent when hooked onto the rail.
Parts are included for gear up as well as a stand although no pilot figure is included. Optional position air brake and moving tailplanes. Canopy can open and unlike HM - it is hinged. Weathering is about the best that's been done on a diecast I think, of course I don't know how much it cost Dragon to do.
One thing about this model it is heavy - a lot heavier than a HM and surprisingly heavier than a CW F-14. Corgi still wins on weight with their B-17 though In summary, a nice model from the past and bit of a shame Dragon are no longer in the 1/72 diecast hobby.
